Wedding Planning with Your Videographer

What do I mean...wedding planning?

I don't mean that your day's festivities and all the the moving parts (the flowers, the caterer, the venue, the rings, the--you get what I mean) that go into a successful wedding will be taken care of by your wedding videographer...

BUT I do mean that in order to get the best wedding film possible, some planning needs to occur between you and your videographer.

Every wedding videographer works differently but, the ones that continually produce the best films that truly capture the day, connect with the soon to be spouses and arrive on the day with some planned shots ready to go.  It is imperative that before the big day arrives you have some discussions with your videographer about any cool ideas you may have as a couple that you want to capture.

You should definitely watch some of the videographer's past work (obviously), and don't be afraid to highlight the moments you really fell in love seeing on film (basically why did you hire this videographer as opposed to any other possible choice?).  Watch some other wedding films and see what moments from those you really love and see if your videographer can capture moments similarly in style.

Some shots require a little more set up.  So if you want the best possible film, discussing your ideas and how to execute them together will help your videographer go miles further in capturing the best moments.

Do you and your spouse want to plan a shot that is out of the ordinary?

Here are some possible points that would be wise to discuss with your videographer:

  • You have chosen to do "First Looks" and want to capture the moments of anticipation leading up to the big reveal.
  • You have a family member that you want to make sure makes it into the film...DON'T FORGET about great, great grandma Suzie!!
  • You have planned a big surprise after the first dance or reception entry and want to make sure that it doesn't get missed.
  • You absolutely love what your videographer did for another client or something you saw from another wedding film and want to try and do the same.
  • You want to capture something that you and your spouse both love.  Maybe that is hiking, reading together, writing each other letters, walking into the sunset, etc.  Anything that comes to mind can possibly be worked into the day's events and captured for your film.

All in all, every film and wedding will be different so any plans that are made prior to the day will definitely change on the fly, but the more you reveal to videographer about your sense of style the better!

Weddings are always a rollercoaster of a day, so buckle up, keep your arms and legs inside the cart at all times, and enjoy the ride!  Your wedding videographer will capture the rest!
